Speaker Supper, 7.30pm, Friday 30th May: I don’t believe it! Crossman, Christie and Bletchley – Enigmas and Historical Truth.
Lady Balfour of Burleigh (Janet Morgan), authorised biographer of Agatha Christie and Edwina Mountbatten, writer on the exploits of her father-in-law in establishing the Intelligence Corps in WW1 Paris and Luxembourg, and editor of the Richard Crossman Diaries of a Cabinet Minister (in Harold Wilson’s troubled Government) delves into the challenges and morality of (re)writing history; the truth , the whole truth and nothing like the truth. Should historians reveal all, fill in the gaps or let sleeping dogs rest peacefully? How do you verify the evidence? Can you distinguish fiction from faction? Expect an entertaining evening of enigmas and moral dilemmas.
